Pia Palme

Pia Palme

Pia Palme is a cartographer of sound, working as an award-winning composer, experimentalist, and as a performer with the contrabass recorder. Her practice and her work are grounded on a subversive process of listening. As a listener, improviser and composer she maps both the inside and the outside of her environment, as well as the structures of (her own) thoughts and emotions. She observes the background noises of social interaction and defines her method of working as political. Sound, space and physicality are the cornerstones of her practice. Pia Palme lives in Vienna, where she was born in 1957; she currently finishes her doctoral thesis in composition at the University of Huddersfield, UK.
