Tsembla // Andrea Belfi

18 May 2012 - 21:00

An evening with solo sets by TSEMBLA and ANDREA BELFI.

Tsembla is the musical work of Swedish artist Marja Johansson based inTurku, Finland. Her music blends concrete sound modifications with acoustic and electronic instrumentation into extraordinary beautiful and haunting music that rides on waves of warped melodies, rhythms and mutating
textures.
Tsembla´s first full length album Fauna was released on the Finnish label Ikuisuus in 2011.

Find more info on facebook or listen to Tsembla´s music on soundcloud respectively youtube.

Andrea Belfi has been playing drums since the age of 14. He studied art in Milan and has been working in experimental music since 2000. He plays with David Grubbs, Mike Watt, Stefano Pilia, Attila Faravelli, Machinefabriek, Hobocombo.

In his live set, Belfi faces the audience with an essential drum set, surrounded by synthesizers, a loop station, some contact microphones, an harmonica and two small-size speakers.
A careful preparatory work, which consists in a previous and much reflected upon selection of emotional scenarios, allows the live set to be spontaneous and to “live the moment”, definitively avoiding any over-conceptualization. Belfi's main achievement is the building of “proper” songs through a radical improvisation rather than through the use of fixed and codified elements.
